WordPress – The Best Way To Get Online ?
There are all sorts of ways to get online these days. You can use one of a host of sites, dubbed web 2.0 sites, like Squidoo, Tumblr, Hubpages and many more. You could even using the blogger system that is owned by Google but probably the best way to get online is to use the WordPress content management system.
Should You Start For Free
Depending on what you want to do online, you can use one of the aforementioned systems to get a presence online but I would suggest, if you are trying to create business and become an authority in your niche, it’s best to pay your way right from the get go.
This means getting hosting and having your very own little piece of virtual real estate on the world wide web. Unlike if you had a Blogger blog or a Squidoo lens, the owners of the site (Google or whoever owns Squidoo (Seth Godin) ) can’t kick you into the street if they decide they want to move their grand daughter in.
No, you own your own website and can walk around in your underpants all day, regardless of what the neighbors see or say about it.
And when you own your own hosting, the best system to put on it is the wordpress content management system.
Pros of having WordPress
- Easy to install
Most hosting companies have fast wordpress installation, using something like Fantastico – a script that moves all the files into place for you.
- Easy to Use
A wordpress site is easy to use, even if you have no html or other programming language skills. It’s just like using a word processor once you’ve got the initial settings done.
- Heaps of Support
As so many people use WordPress, there is plenty of support if you have problems or questions. Look up your problem on the internet and you’re bound to find someone talking abut it.
Plus, there are loads of people working on plugins and themes that mean you can turn a wordpress site into just about any type of site.
Cons of a WordPress site
- WordPress seem to update their software quite a bit, usually because there are security breaches in the code. This means you have to update the software on your blog/s if you want to plug up the security breach. Of course you don’t have to do this but you probably should.
- WordPress blogs can get hacked, which can be a real pain if you don’t have a backup. I’ve had a few blogs hacked but in most cases it’s easy to fix – ask your hosting company. Also, try to take a backup every couple of weeks.
